Arsenal and Manchester City head into tonight’s Premier League clash at the Emirates Stadium on the back of contrasting weeks.
Manuel Pellegrini’s side will arrive in North London brimming with confidence, knowing three points will send them back up to second, for 24 hours at least before Liverpool face Tottenham.
The Chilean has watched his side dispatch Fulham 5-0 and Manchester United 3-0 in the past week, showing the sort of ruthless form in front of goal that had them down as everyone’s early season title favourites.
For Arsenal, it has been a completely different story.
This time a week ago, all the hype surrounded Wenger’s 1000th game in charge as the Gunners prepared to take on Chelsea.
The 6-0 humbling that followed was arguably a worse performance of any of the 999 that had gone before under Wenger’s leadership.
Midweek saw further disappointment, as Swansea City left the Emirates with a point thanks to a freak 90th minute own goal from Mathieu Flamini – a result that all but ended Arsenal’s title challenge.
The previous two results aside, Arsenal have still impressed at times this season, and remain on course to claim a top four finish, and perhaps end their nine year trophy drought as favourites to lift the FA Cup.
For Manchester City, it is all about claiming a second Premier League title, having already collected the Capital One Cup earlier this month.
Taking both teams seasons into account, we have put together the combined Arsenal and Manchester City XI.
