Everton host Arsenal at Goodison Park on Sunday for a fixture that has become an unexpected top four showdown.
The Gunners had hoped to be challenging for the title at the business end of the season, but damaging defeats at the hands of Stoke City and Chelsea have derailed their challenge.
On the flip side, Everton are on a run of five straight victories, and now only trail the Gunners in fifth place by four points with a game in hand.
That has made this weekend’s game take on added significance, with an Everton win meaning their Champions League dream is firmly in their own hands.
Roberto Martinez has enjoyed a fantastic debut season at Goodison Park, creating a team not only pleasing on the eye, but challenging at the top end of the table.
Arsenal meanwhile can still save their season by securing Champions League football, and ending their nine year trophy drought by seeing off Wigan Athletic, and Hull City or Sheffield United.
And with money to spend in the summer to recruit further world class talent, Gunners supporters would probably have taken such a scenario at the start of the season.
With both teams respective seasons in mind, we have come up with the Football Transfer Tavern’s combined Everton and Arsenal XI.
