‘The Gerrard effect’ – Awful season ends but Rangers fans on Twitter got some very good news

The Rangers fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to the news that Burnley’s Scott Arfield has become Steven Gerrard’s first signing as a senior manager as he swapped Turf Moor for Ibrox today. The 29-year-old midfielder has experience of playing Scottish football having spent three years at Falkirk between 2007 and 2010.

The Gers propping our bar up will hope that Arfield can be just the first in a long list of Steven Gerrard’s signings for the club. The Canadian international will provide a wealth of experience both on and off the pitch as he leaves Burnley following a superb final season with The Clarets finishing 7th in the Premier League and securing Europa League football for next season against all the odds.

Gerrard’s task in Glasgow is going to be a really tough one. He’s taken over at the club as their Old Firm rivals sit on the cusp of winning Scottish football’s first ever double treble. The Liverpool legend will be up against a familiar face in his battle to claw the gap between Rangers and Celtic, as the gaffer at Parkhead is Stevie G’s former Anfield boss, Brendan Rodgers.
