Everton have begun to really pick up under new manager Sam Allardyce, and it’s once again a testament to the former Newcastle and Bolton manager of his ability to get the best out of failing teams.
Another win in midweek, this time over Newcastle, moved the Toffees further up the Premier League table, and there’s a firm belief now that the club can push on and do the business in the second half of the campaign to ensure they at least finish in the top eight.
With Wayne Rooney leading the line well and Dom Calvert-Lewin showing promise, there’s reason to believe the Toffees are well covered up top, however, our landlord here at the Tavern thinks the club still look a bit short, and one or two more big names in that position could be a good thing.
One particular player who has been impressing this season is Spanish striker Mariano, who is ripping it up in the French league with Lyon, bagging 12 goals already in what has been an impressive campaign by the 24-year-old.
With Everton now having funds to spend under their new owners, it’s not unrealistic to put these sorts of player in their price range and grasp, and Mariano is showing all the qualities of a striker who can go on to be a real success in the Premier League.
Given the chance, Mariano would surely bag goals for Everton, and he could be well worth a punt by Allardyce in the January window.
Toffees fans, what do you think? Good signing? Let us know in the comments!
