The Last Five Games …Might Need A Dentist

In our look at the run-ins of the teams trying to get themselves a European spot for next season, today takes us Everton and see what their final five fixtures look like. I reckon Everton have been one of the most improved teams in the second-half of this season, but will their slow start cost them the European football that they desire?

Let’s find out and see what I think they will end up with come May:

Wednesday, 14th April – Aston Villa (A): Everton are bound to come up against a Villa side still hurting from Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final defeat to Chelsea. However, the Toffees are in good form and can be a difficult side to break down. Villa will also be determined to put on a performance to show that they have got over the defeat.

Prediction: Draw

Saturday, 17th April – Blackburn (A): A second tough away game in the space of three days against a Blackburn side that has only lost twice at home this season. It will be interesting to see how physically fatigued Everton will be after their midweek game at Villa Park. Blackburn are purely playing for pride but I have a feeling that David Moyes’s men will grind their way to a victory here- with their set pieces always being a strength.

Prediction: Everton win

Sunday, 25th April – Fulham (H): Fulham have just proved that going up to Merseyside and getting a result after a testing European night is well within their capabilities. Although their concentrations are solely on the Europa League, they will give Everton a run for their money. The tremendous support that the home team gets at Goodison Park, in their penultimate home fixture, could see them over the line against an exhibition-type Fulham side.

Prediction: Everton win

Saturday, 1st May – Stoke (A): Never an easy team to play and the Britannia Stadium faithful will see their team for the last time this season. Stoke are safe and will cause Everton problems in this game. Although the Toffees are a steely side themselves, it remains to be seen if they keep their concentration and cope with the long throw-ins.

Prediction: Stoke win

Sunday, 9th May – Portsmouth (H): This has home win written all over it. Pompey are relegated and they will have the FA Cup final purely on their minds- especially as it is the Saturday after this final home game. A Portsmouth team likely to be without many first-teamers and an Everton team possibly still within a chance of qualifying for the Europa League all point to three points for Everton.

Prediction: Everton win

Total points after 38 games – 60. Whatever happens in terms of European qualification or not, this figure will represent a good total for Everton considering their start to the season and the amount of injuries they have had to contend with.
