‘The man’, ‘Keep playing’ – Man United fans on Twitter look to have changed their mind about flop

The Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to comments from their young Swedish centre-back, Victor Lindelof after he was voted man of the match following United’s 2-1 win over Arsenal. The 23-year-old, speaking for the Manchester United website after the match, claimed that playing in the Champions League is the most important thing for the club as the three points against Arsenal secured a top-four finish for Jose Mourinho’s men.

United left it late as they beat Arsenal 2-1 at Old Trafford yesterday. The Red Devils opened the scoring inside 15 minutes when Paul Pogba scored into an empty net following an Alexis Sanchez header and United should have had more than a 1-0 lead as they went into half-time. Missed chances in the first-half came back to bite them as Henrikh Mkhitaryan scored on his return to Old Trafford after just six second-half minutes to level the score at 1-1.

Manchester United had four minutes to find a winner, despite outplaying the North Londoners for most of the match. However, Marouane Fellaini popped up in the 91st minute with a superb header to secure a 2-1 win for Mourinho’s side. Despite Fellaini’s heroics, Victor Lindelof was voted man of the match after a tidy display at the back saw him rarely troubled and allowed him to look comfortable on the ball, spraying passes forward to teammates.
