With Chelsea confirming the departure of star striker Didier Drogba the club must now start thinking of a replacement for the Ivorian.
According to reports the club hierachy have held a series of technic-based forward planning meetings designed to ensure the club push on from their first ever Champions League glory. These talks were put on hold until both the FA Cup and Champions League finals were over but with both trophies secured the club are now planning a Stamford Bridge revamp.
Top of the to do list is find a replacement for Drogba who is departing for China. The shortlist consists of three names, Higuain (although Real are keen to keep the striker), Cavani (but wages – £150,000 a week – are a stumbling block, and £50m rated Athletico Madrid striker Falcao.
Falcao currently tops the clubs wish list after scoring 36 goals in his first season for Athletico and he is seen as a perfect partner for Fernando Torres as Chelsea plan to pair two strikers next season.
Falcao boasts all the attributes to succeed in the Premier League and would certainly be a great partner or healthy competition for Fernando Torres.
If Chelsea were to pay £50m for Falcao then this would also ease some of the pressure on Fernando Torres as he has struggled to live upto his £50m price tag.
No longer being the clubs most expensive player may feel like a weight lifted of Torres’s shoulders and with him and Falcao firing Chelsea could once again rival Man City for the Premier League crown.
