The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern were extremely impressed by Joe Gomez’s performance on international duty for England earlier this week.
Of course, Gomez’s assured performance came as no surprise to the onlooking Reds fans, who have seen the quality of their defender on a regular basis so far this season. However, the 20-year-old has been playing in the slightly unfamiliar right-back position out of necessity so far this season, due to the absence of Liverpool’s first-choice right-back Nathaniel Clyne.
In a post on the club’s Twitter page, manager Jurgen Klopp confirmed that he envisages a long career for Gomez at Anfield, and stated that the England international is ready to play at the heart of the defence.
Klopp on Joe Gomez: "We want to have him here for the next 15 years. He's ready [to play centre-back] but he can play full-back." pic.twitter.com/RHZv250Qy1

Considering Klopp’s admission that Gomez is indeed ready to play at centre-back, the Liverpool fans will be eager to see Clyne return to action as soon as possible so that the young defender can bring some much-needed solidity to the Liverpool defence.
With Ragnar Klavan and Dejan Lovren not enjoying their best run of form this season, it can only be a matter of time before Klopp gives the Reds faithful their wish and deploys Gomez in his natural centre-back role.
Here’s what the fans had to say in response to the club post…
Play him centre back then
