Kurt Zouma is out of favour at Man Utd, and whilst the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern don’t want to lose him, perhaps it makes sense…
Of course, just a year ago Zouma – who TranferMarkt rate at £14.45 million – was a mainstay in the Chelsea first team, adding dominating, powerful defensive acumen to an otherwise disappointing backline. Who was the manager that facilitated his rise at Stamford Bridge? None other than Jose Mourinho.
Rarely a manager that favours young players, Zouma managed to force his way into the plans of Mourinho, but that has changed under Antonio Conte. Following an injury, the Frenchman has struggled to really be given a chance under the Italian, and it might be time for a change. Whilst it may not be a popular move in London, perhaps Man Utd would offer the perfect home for him.
From Man Utd’s perspective, a defensive rejig is needed. The likes of Marcos Rojo and Luke Shaw haven’t really cut it this year, and whilst Eric Baily has impressed in parts – he hasn’t really got a partner that is good enough. Step in Kurt Zouma. Powerful like the Ivorian, Zouma and Baily would present a terrifying, strong, agile, powerful and aerial threat for opposing teams – giving Man Utd the edge at the back.
Mourinho also clearly trusts him, and that goes a long way. At just 22-years-old, he would solve issues at Old Trafford long-term and would be able to form a partnership with Baily for years to come.
Would Chelsea be keen on selling? Probably not. But if Zouma wants regular game time, Old Trafford might just be the perfect home.
