Tottenham supporters have been significantly more upbeat in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their side pick up victories over Apoel Nicosia and Stoke City at Wembley in the past seven days, thus ending any concerns about their recent run of form.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men went into their clash with the latter off the back of just one win in their preceding six Premier League games, yet produced an excellent performance to sweep aside Mark Hughes’ team 5-1 to keep the pressure on the division’s top four. And although their success over Apoel Nicosia meant little in terms of qualification, it was an important encounter for Pochettino’s side given their recent domestic struggles, and victory also saw them finish the Champions League group stages with more points than any other side (16).
Consequently, there have been many satisfied Spurs fans in the Tavern in recent times, several of whom are looking ahead to the January transfer window, and thus what players their team could look to sign to bolster the ranks ahead of the second half of the season.
And one man they’ve been linked with in recent days is Hamburg sensation Jann-Fiete Arp, a 17-year-old striker who became the Bundesliga’s youngest ever player and then goal-scorer earlier this season, by first appearing against Werder Bremen in September, and then scoring against Hertha Berlin a month later.
And his efforts have reportedly attracted the interest of both Spurs and indeed Everton in recent times, yet the youngster should opt for a move to North London over one to Merseyside, as Pochettino’s guidance could help him reach his undoubted potential.
Ultimately, when one takes a look at the current Tottenham side, it is full of young players who have been given the opportunity to shine by the Argentine, be it Dele Alli and Harry Kane in attack, or Eric Dier and Harry Winks in midfield.
All of the aforementioned have become incredibly key players for Spurs in the last few years or so, and they also look set to play a big part in what England seek to achieve in the coming years as well.
And that has all come from the faith shown in them by manager Pochettino, who has not only given them a platform from which to perform at a young age, but has since backed and stuck with them – he is now reaping the rewards.
More importantly, they have all become much better players under the Spurs boss. Kane is now one of the most lethal strikers in Europe, while Alli is being touted for a move to Real Madrid.
Dier is a fine midfielder and arguably England’s number one in that position, while is also one of his country’s best defenders as well, especially in a back three. Add in Winks’ rise in recent times, and Pochettino is getting things right at the North London outfit.
And that must be of interest of 17-year-old Arp, who will be well aware that Pochettino will provide young players with the chance to succeed in the first team, but also coach them and make them better players at the same time.
And with a new stadium to come and now back-to-back seasons of Champions League football, the club is also heading in the right direction, and is becoming increasingly desirable to move to, especially under one of the most highly-rated managers in Pochettino.
Thus, the Pochettino factor surely must convince the German starlet to choose North London over Merseyside in the coming transfer windows.
