Pro – The news that Manchester City are interested in the much coveted Eden Hazard comes as no surprise. Roberto Mancini watched as the Belgian international scored in Lille’s 4-1 win over Valenciennes this weekend. Hazard confirmed that a move to the Etihad would defiantly appeal to him but at the moment he is only concentrating on Lille.
Joining the blue half of Manchester would be a significant step up for the young winger but he would surely improve by being surrounded by all the top quality talent that Mancini’s squad has to offer.
Con – Look no further than Samir Nasre. The Frenchman is obviously a prodigious talent and at Arsenal last season he was one of the Premier Leagues shining lights.
Since moving to City he has struggled with his form and seems to have been lost amongst the plethora of attack talents at Mancini’s disposal. For Hazard this should be looked at as a big negative. A big money move brings with it huge amounts of expectancy and coming into a new league it takes time to settle in and find top form. With the level of competition that exists in the City squad Hazard may have to be patient for his opportunity and grasp it when it does come.
Pro– Hazard declared himself as “excited” with the news that Sir Alex Ferguson had watched him during his side’s match against Lyon a few weeks ago. United’s need for an attacking midfielder has been evident for most of the season and Hazard would represent a cheaper option for United than going after Inter Milan’s flying Dutchman Wesley Sneijder.
United certainly have the pedigree when it comes to nurturing young talent in recent years, players such as Wayne Rooney, Nani and none other than Cristiano Ronaldo have developed into world class players under the tutelage of Sir Alex Ferguson. Hazard definitely has the potential to join this list and if he were to join United he would join the young core of a squad the Fergie will be hoping can dominate English football for some time to come.
Con – The only negative against Hazard from joining Manchester United is that they already have the strongest set of wingers in the Premier League. The likes of Ashley Young, Antonio Valencia and Nani already cause absolute havoc among opposition defences and it is hard to see where another winger could possible fit.
That being said Hazard is more than capable of cutting in from his wing and being effective through the middle something that separates him from the existing United wingers. United need someone who has the ability unlock the opposition defences through the middle as David Silva does for City, the can opener if you like.
Pro– Harry Redknapp has identified Eden Hazard as the type of player that Spurs must break the bank for in order to consolidate their position as a major force in the Premier League. Redknapp has made no secret of his interest in the highly sought after Hazard and has watched him on many occasions this season. If Hazard were to join Spurs it would represent a major transfer coup for the North London club as the player has been the subject of interest of nearly every major team in Europe.
Daniel Levy would certainly have to break the bank for Hazard and he would be expected to pay more than double the £16million that he paid for club record signings Darren Bent and Luka Modric.
The thought of Hazard joining the likes of Gareth Bale, Luka Modric and Rafa Van der Vaart will surely be an exciting prospect for Spurs fans and he would immediately be a crucial member of the squad. At the two Manchester clubs Hazard may have to be patient for his opportunities but at a club like Spurs you could definitely see Harry throwing his right into the mix from the beginning.
Con – With the two Manchester clubs interested and not to mention the great Zinedine Zidane declaring that he would take Hazard to Real Madrid with his eyes closed the young Belgian attacker may feel that he is destined for bigger things that the White Hart Lane outfit. As he has already won the French League and already sampled the Champions League with current club Lille, you would think that Hazard would only be interested in moving to a club that has a genuine chance at winning a major piece of silverware.
With this being said him joining Spurs, they would definitely have one of the best teams in the Premier League and the only question is if they have the depth to contend for domestic and continental honours.
If the Lille attacker decides that England is the place that he wants to be in then he will have to make a big choice. I feel that Manchester United or Spurs would be the best options for Hazard. At both of these clubs he can be nurtured into the finished article. At Manchester City if he has a few bad games he may find himself on the bench and that certainly is not the place for a player as gifted as Hazard. At Spurs he would immediately be a key member of the squad and I think a player like this needs to feel as if he is a very important member of the team.
At Manchester United Fergie has seen it all and done it all and would no doubt be able to get the best out of the player. With all three of these clubs seemingly willing to pay the transfer fee, it looks as if Hazard has a big choice to make.
