Everton manager David Moyes’ belief that Wayne Rooney was dropped by Sir Alex Ferguson as punishment, rather than through pity, now seems to hold some weight. Within the past 24 hours, it has emerged from viable sources that Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho is ready to revive his previously failed move for the 24 year old striker
Having made no secret of his admiration for Rooney’s talents, Mourinho is preparing for a negotiations war with his nemesis Ferguson. Some neutrals may argue that with Rooney’s private life very much under the cosh a move to Spain may be welcomed, especially if Manchester United are indeed losing their nerve after dropping vital points early in the new season.
An unnamed source has also stated:
“Wayne was shocked and disappointed to be left out. It was the manager’s call, 100 per cent.”
Evidently Rooney has not fully comprehended the correlation between life on and life off the pitch, and how sensitive his public image is at an important juncture (the very peak) of his career.
If his performance against Rangers in midweek should not kick-start Manchester United’s season, then it can only be downwards from there.
