Manchester United

The Spanish international who’s quickly becoming the next Paul Scholes at Manchester United

It’s been a season of mixed fortunes down at Old Trafford but the campaign has ultimately ended in success after the club’s superb Europa League victory earlier this week.

The Red Devils have brought home two pieces of silverware now this campaign and have also secured their place in next season’s Champions League as a result of their success against Ajax earlier this week.

But now, the thinking is very much focused on what can be achieved in the coming months and years at Old Trafford, under the guidance of Jose Mourinho.

But there’s one man who wasn’t necessarily signed by Mourinho who has been in superb form all-season long and who might hold the key to success next time out.

The man in question? Ander Herrera, who has been absolutely fantastic for the Red Devils this campaign and you’ll be hard-pressed to find a United fan who doesn’t agree.

Compared to what we’ve seen from him in the past, he’s been cool, calm and collected on the ball. As the likes of Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick have gone off the boil, it’s been increasingly important that United have found someone that can replace them and give that real quality in the middle-of-the-park.

Herrera has been just that too- moving the ball around confidently, adding more power and discipline to his game whilst really understanding what Jose Mourinho wants from him in the midfield.

He’s beginning to look every bit like one of United’s other former stars in Paul Scholes and that’s only a good thing for the Red Devils going forward.

They need to keep hold of him, protect him and most importantly, resist the urge to sell him too.

United fans- just how important has Herrera been in recent months? Leave your thoughts in the comments below!
