It'll be a hectic summer window in the Football Transfer Tavern as clubs look to strengthen their squads ahead of the 2017/18 campaign, especially at Southampton.

The Saints have endured a lacklustre season with Claude Puel at the helm and it's to no surprise that they are lingering in mid-table following the departure of Ronald Koeman - it is stability which they need, and that won't occur with alternating managements.

One thing Puel has kept true to his word is continue to promote the constant promising talent coming out of the academy, something the club is proud of and never really dives too in-depth into the transfer window.

Supporters by-the-bar have been discussing potential arrivals at St. Mary's in the coming months and their fee, whilst the transfer saga surrounding Virgil Van Djik continues, it is the attack and midfield that could do with bolstering.

The scouts should look up and down the country, as well as abroad, to search for the right signings that could, not only improve the squad, but fit in and become stars - here are the striker and midfielder Southampton need to acquire to strengthen the first-team.....

Hatem Ben Arfa

The Frenchman has swiftly become an outcast at continental giants Paris Saint-Germain, and a move away from the country's capital may be likely as the attacking midfielder is seemingly deemed surplus to requirements.

Hatem Ben Arfa has hit the peak of his career across the Channel, however, and if the opportunity arose at Saints the 30-year-old will surely snatch at the chance.

Southampton could do with a proven attack-minded man in the heart of the pitch, with the skill and pace he offers then the former Newcastle United player would make himself at home in the top-flight on the south-coast.

Nicolai Jørgensen

Our Saints-mad bar man always likes new arrivals from across the water coming to the club, especially when the large majority of supporters in this country have no idea who they are.

Feyenoord striker Nicolai Jørgensen was key to his side's league title in the Netherlands, scoring an incredible 21 goals in Eredivisie and providing 13 more - a record that just a handful can boast about in the continent this season.

He is large improvement on Charlie Austin and Shane Long, who are both the only out-and-out forwards among Southampton's first-team.

So the 26-year-old being obtained could largely improve the Saints' attack.

Southampton supporters, would you welcome these two? Are they improvements? Let us hear your thoughts in the comments below!
