The Transfer Tavern’s combined Liverpool and Everton XI

Tim Howard Our punters in the Football Transfer Tavern are getting more and more excited as the weekend approaches.

Not only do we have a rather exciting North London derby coming up but there is also one of the best games in football – the Merseyside derby – to boot.

As one of our regulars notes over a pint, there is always pride at stake but these days with Liverpool looking to challenge for the title and Everton firmly keeping their eyes on a Champions League prize, not to mention two very ambitious managers, we certainly think that the game is worth more than three points.

Neither side have really been the best defensively this season and whilst going forward Everton have impressed us, Liverpool have struggled – as our regulars thought they might – without Luis Suarez.

Despite signing Mario Balotelli and indeed spending a fair chunk of money to boot, Brendan Rodgers is heavily reliant on Raheem Sterling and we expect the England international winger to have an excellent game once again, not that he will be the only one.

With that in mind, our punters put their heads together to come up with a combined starting eleven from the two squads on Merseyside.
