There could be an opening for a major Chelsea return this summer – report

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern think that their side are desperately missing John Terry this season. The English defender left Stamford Bridge for Aston Villa over the summer after the Blues failed to renew his contract, ending a 22-year association with the London club.

Now, though, there is at least a chance that he could be on his way back.

According to the Mirror, Terry wants to return to Chelsea this summer in a non-playing role, with the defender eager to try his hand at coaching and management. Significantly, it is said that – given the uncertain future of Antonio Conte – there could be an opening for him this summer, making the chances of a return genuinely realistic.

Of course, it seems very unlikely that he will get a prominent role – given his lack of experience – but a return does make sense. After all, especially if a new manager comes in, his knowledge of the club and the players could be invaluable, not to mention the influence that his presence in the dressing room could have.

Barring a short-term loan, Terry played for Chelsea throughout the entirety of his career, prior to moving to Aston Villa, and so his departure has been quite the shock to the system for Blues. It’s also affected the players on the pitch, it seems, with a gulf in leadership evident at present.

A return for Terry would certainly please our resident Blues, that much is certain.

Landlord’s Verdict

Chelsea aren’t enjoying the best season, and there’s no doubting that Terry has been a massive loss. Not only on the pitch, but he was such a charismatic force for the club, and so it can’t have been easy to adjust to life after him.

He might not be up to par on the pitch anymore, and so a non-playing role makes sense, and it’s obvious that a return for Terry would only have a positive effect for the Blues.
