Since the first time we heard that there had been an accusation of inappropriate language against referee Mark Clattenburg, in particular racist language we new this would be the start of a much bigger storm.
It all began during the Manchester United V Chelsea game which was surrounded in controversial decisions, none more so than the accusation that referee Mark Clattenburg had used racist language towards Juan Mata and Jon Obi Mikel.
Since then we saw the allegation of racist language used against Juan Mata dropped on the basis of a lack of evidence and now BBC Sport are reporting the Metropolitan Police have dropped the investigation against Mark Clattenburg with regards to the accusations made about the Chelsea players.
Police said in a statement on Tuesday: “Inquiries were made and no victims have come forward. The matter will remain as a recorded incident.
“Without a victim and/or any evidence that any offence has been committed, the matter cannot currently be investigated.
“If the situation changes and a victim and/or evidence to support an allegation of a crime comes to police attention, then further inquiries will, if appropriate, be made.”
Yet we are now being told the Chairman of the society of Black lawyers, Peter Herbert is the one who reported Mark Clattenburg to the police on the basis of what he had seen at the match but was not in the vicinity of the players and the referee and in essence was going off hear say.
Peter Herbert appears to have now waged war on the “institutionally racist” FA whilst trying to form a separatist Black footballers association which will do nothing more than serve to divide football in to a them and us sport.
Surely it would be much better if Peter Herbert tried to bring everyone together rather than making accusations “from a position of little or zero evidence” according to PFA Chairman Clark Carlisle.
What Mr Herbert doesn’t realise is if the allegations against Mark Clattenburg are proved false by an FA investigation then he will have tarnished the reputation of one of England’s best referee’s and could see football in England take a massive step backwards as Mr Herbert tries to go about making things right, the wrong way.Like what the TT have on offer?
