Here in the Football Transfer Tavern we have always rated Belgian powerhouse Romelu Lukaku and there was some surprise when Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho decided to send him out on loan to Everton.
The Blues have brought in former Barcelona and Inter Milan striker Samuel Eto’o and have Fernando Torres in reserve but Chelsea supporters would have liked to see the 20-year-old remain as another option during a tough Premier League campaign.
However any hopes that these supporters had of seeing Lukaku in a Chelsea shirt have been dismissed by the Mail Online who report that Chelsea do not have an option to bring the striker back until the end of the season. This is much to the disappointment of Blues supporters sat around the bar in the tavern.
The former Anderlecht forward was the key man in his new side’s 3-2 victory over West Ham United on Saturday scoring the winning goal at Upton Park for Roberto Martinez’s team.
He had already scored 18 times during a temporary spell at West Bromwich Albion last season and some Blues fans thought that new boss Jose Mourinho would give him his chance to shine in his first team squad this season.
Asked about the situation, Mourinho said: “Lukaku is good at Everton. If he’s going to play every game, it’s good for his future at Chelsea.”
And now Lukaku will remain at Goodison Park until next summer when the Blues are hoping that he will kick on with his developing Chelsea career.
Has Mourinho left himself short by not including a recall clause in the loan deal? Should he have kept Lukaku at Chelsea anyway? Let us know your thoughts below.
