Everton are set to travel to Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon for a fixture which will see two of Portugal’s finest managers go head-to-head.
Indeed, Marco Silva and Jose Mourinho are held in high esteem in various corners of the British media, but both will feel they have a point to prove when their sides clash on Sunday.
Silva has demonstrated the potential to become one of the best managers in English football but his mixed opening to life at Everton has evoked fresh questions about the extent of his credentials to flourish in the Premier League.
Meanwhile, Mourinho’s reputation is dwindling amid a borderline crisis at Old Trafford following their desperately mediocre opening to the season, and Sunday’s fixture already feels like a must-win fixture in terms of their title challenge.
Mourinho spoke to the press on Friday afternoon ahead of the fixture and he revealed that Alexis Sanchez will play no part on Sunday after he failed to recover from a groin injury in time to face the Toffees.
In response to the news, supporters turned out in their numbers on Twitter to ridicule the under-performing Chile international, with many claiming that his absence actually represents a boost to United’s chances of recording victory.
Considering Sanchez has scored 3 goals and provided 2 assists in his previous 7 appearances against Everton, plenty of Evertonians will be pleased with the report, despite his peculiar struggle for form at United.
But that didn’t stop plenty of neutrals from claiming that Sanchez’s absence represents a blow to Everton’s chances of clinching an emphatic win at Old Trafford.
Here’s what supporters have had to say in response to Mourinho’s update…
