These Man City fans are delighted with links to Frenkie De Jong

Manchester City’s desire to sign a new central midfield player is one of the worst kept secrets in European football and rumours linking the club with talented central players continue to swirl in the media.

Jorginho, Miralem Pjanic and Ruben Neves more recently are all players who have been tipped with joining Pep Guardiola at Man City but yet they remain without a new midfield lynchpin to anchor their midfield. Fernandinho is now 33-years-old and will struggle to maintain his impeccable standard of form if he is not afforded adequate time to rest his legs after a hectic 12 months of club and international football.

City will now have to wait until the January transfer window to make their move into the market, but that has not prevented a fresh rumour from cropping up.

According to the Spanish media outlet Mundo Deportivo (via City Watch), City are expressing an interest in one of Ajax’s most promising young players, namely Frenkie De Jong, although they face competition from PSG, Barcelona, Tottenham Hotspur, Roma and Borussia Dortmund.

The Dutch giants are universally renowned for producing players of the highest quality year on year and De Jong is simply another example who serves to exemplify that notion.

A mainstay at the heart of Ajax’s midfield so far this season, the 21-year-old prodigy looks like a genuine talent for the future, but a 50 million euro (£45 million) price-tag may yet convince City to turn their attention elsewhere.

However, De Jong’s youthfulness and lack of experience outside of Holland certainly hasn’t prevented the City supporters from expressing an interest in his services.

Here’s what the City fans have said about their links with De Jong…
