Southampton looked set to record back-to-back Premier League victories for the first time since April 2017 on Monday evening when Danny Ings gave the Saints a 2-0 lead from the penalty spot, but familiar demons continued to haunt the players whom eventually threw away their advantage.
The Saints look to have rediscovered a level of confidence that was glaringly absent under Mauricio Pellegrino but a winning mentality continues to elude them.
After throwing away a 2 goal lead against Brighton the Southampton supporters were understandably frustrated and pessimistic about their prospects for the season ahead.
However, there was one positive which the supporters took away from their Monday night clash: the standard of Nathan Redmond’s performance.
Indeed, Redmond (valued at £16.2 million by Transfermarkt) has been a figure of intense scrutiny amongst the Southampton supporters since he arrived from Norwich City in 2016, as his enormous potential rarely translates to consistent and quality performances.
But the manner in which Redmond has started the new season suggests that he is beginning to turn a significant corner in his development, and that has given the fans plenty of reason to be optimistic for the future.
Redmond hasn’t managed to score a single goal for the club yet this season but if he continues to show the attacking intent he has demonstrated so far then it’s only a matter of time before he makes a decisive impact in the final-third.
Here’s what the Saints faithful have had to say about Redmond on Twitter…
Nathan Redmond was excellent last night, going to be massive for us this season

We're attacking, having shots and Nathan Redmond looks a different player to last season. That first half was enjoyable to watch. Imagine that! #saintsfc

I tell you what – Nathan Redmond will never be a world beater, but he ranks amongst the best we have right now.
So glad the majority opinion has turned in favour of supporting the lad and his improved attitude. #saintsfc

Along with Ings our best player so far this season.

Was excellent tonight, not afraid to take his man on and go to the byline. Like a completely different player, fair play to him

Real talk, Nathan Redmond is a beast. Better action than Sanchez.
