Tottenham Hotspur go into their weekend clash with Watford in fine form after winning their first 3 Premier League fixtures, but they have received some unwelcome injury news ahead of their trip to Vicarage Road.
Indeed, Hugo Lloris has been ruled out with a thigh injury and will be unavailable to start as Spurs bid to continue their 100% record. The news arrives as a blow to the club as the importance of Lloris’ presence between the sticks simply cannot be overstated.
However, Mauricio Pochettino will have to make do without the World Cup winner and chose one of his backup goalkeepers to replace him.
The natural choice would be Michel Vorm but it appears that the Tottenham supporters are absolutely adamant that Paulo Gazzaniga should be given a rare opportunity to prove himself.
The 6ft 4in goalkeeper moved to the club from Southampton last summer despite the presence of both Lloris and Vorm, and he made just 1 appearance all season against Crystal Palace at Wembley.
Spurs recorded a 1-0 win that day and Gazzaniga played a crucial role in their victory as he made a handful of important saves to ensure he kept a clean sheet.
And it seems the supporters have not forgotten the quality of his performance from that day as plenty of them have called for Pochettino to start him today instead of the more obvious choice in Vorm.
Here’s what the Tottenham fans on Twitter have had to say about Gazzaniga…
