Tottenham slumped to a draw against PSV Eindhoven yesterday and effectively waved goodbye at their hopes of getting out of their group in the Champions League.
This did not help shake off their reputation of being bottlers as they blew a 2-1 lead late on. However, they were not helped by captain and goalkeeper Hugo Lloris being sent off in the closing stages.
Fans took to Twitter as soon as the red card appeared to voice their opinions. One of our regulars trawled through Twitter to see what the fans were saying. Clearly, the Tottenham faithful feared the worst when substitute goalkeeper Michel Vorm walked out onto the field. The Dutchman has already proven this season that he is not in good form, or even past it.
As it turns out, he immediately pulled off a brilliant save from a free-kick, and, in all fairness, was unable to do anything about PSV’s goal. However, Spurs fans were still right to feel worried when he came on, and the most bizarre thing is that he was picked in the first place ahead of Paulo Gazzaniga.
The Argentinian shot stopper has already proven this season that he is more reliable than Vorm between the sticks during Lloris’ absence. The Argentinian put in some heroic displays as he looked to have become number two in Mauricio Pochettino’s eyes. However, that proved not to be the case yesterday, and while Vorm was not exactly to blame for anything, Pochettino can still be questioned over his selection policy.
