The Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern have been pleased by their club’s upturn in form since Sam Allardyce took charge, but they are concerned by rumours linking Ross Barkley with a move away from the club this month.
The resident Toffees propping up the bar in the Tavern have been delighted by some of their side’s displays since the appointment of Sam Allardyce. For a period of time during the early stages of the campaign, it looked like Everton were going to be dragged into a shock relegation scrap. However, they have since steered clear of danger and moved into the top-half of the table following a positive set of results during the final month of 2017.
Things are certainly looking up for the blue half of Merseyside on the pitch, but there is genuine cause for concern off the pitch now that the January window is open for business again.
According to reports in The London Evening Standard, Allardyce is resigned to losing their 24-year-old academy product Ross Barkley to either Chelsea or Tottenham Hotspur during the January window.
Barkley has shown immense promise in Everton blue over the course of almost 5 years, but he has never been able to produce his greatest form on a consistent basis.
However, the glimpses of magic he has demonstrated strongly suggest his future in the English top-flight could be an extremely bright one.
Although the loss of Barkley will be a blow to everyone at the club, there are a number of other players who Everton would be wise to encourage to leave the club.
