This £19.8m-rated attacker could be the man to turn both Chelsea and Morata’s season around – agreed?

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that Antonio Conte will bring a new striker to Stamford Bridge this month.

Since the beginning of the January transfer window, The Blues have been linked with moves for a number of strikers, such as Peter Crouch, due to the below-par form of both Alvaro Morata and Michy Batshuayi. Since his transfer from Real Madrid in the summer of 2017, Morata has scored 12 goals and provided 4 assists from 30 matches in all competitions, but it must be noted that the majority of his success arrived during the early stages of the campaign.

10 of Morata’s Premier League goals were scored in his opening 14 appearances and his explosive start to life in English football made him popular with the Chelsea supporters.

However, due to his recent goal-scoring drought, the fans have begun to turn on their Spanish striker who looks shot for confidence at the moment.

But this could all change by the end of the month, as Roma’s Edin Dzeko (valued at £19.8 million by Transfermarkt) could move to Stamford Bridge according to reports in The London Evening Standard.

The Bosnian striker, who is formerly of Manchester City, would be a terrific signing for the club considering his excellent record in both the English and Italian top-flight.

At first glance, it would appear that Dzeko’s move could be detrimental to Morata’s development, as the Bosnian may initially replace him as Chelsea’s first-choice striker, but the increase in competition for a place in Conte’s starting eleven should force him to rediscover his best form.

Antonio Conte has proven that he has almost no faith in Michy Batshuayi by failing to start him on multiple occasions during Morata’s absence this season, and consequently the Spaniard has become complacent in his performances.

With Dzeko at the club, Morata will no longer have room for complacency due to the increase in competition for a starting berth, and this factor alone will provoke a dramatic upturn in his goal-scoring form.

Not to mention, the fact that the Spaniard will be able to get more time off – with Dzeko and the Spaniard likely to share striking duties if he does join – will mean that Morata is fresher and fitter to be able to impress when he does play.

In truth, competition only breeds better performances, and in the case of Morata – a new signing of any kind will make things better.
