Liverpool

This 2-time league winner is the perfect Moreno replacement against Chelsea – agreed?

For the Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern, their upcoming clash with Chelsea could go one of two ways. If the Liverpool of the first half against Sevilla turn up, they could demolish the Blues. However, if the Liverpool side of the second-half is at Anfield, then Antonio Conte’s men could have a field day. Indeed, Liverpool’s game against Sevilla was a match of two halves, with a calamitous collapse in the second-half exposing all of their flaws.

One player that was exposed throughout the fixture was Alberto Moreno. He was at fault for two of Liverpool’s conceded goals, and given how lethal Chelsea are going forward, that could spell disaster for the Reds. If Eden Hazard comes up against the Spaniard whilst the Belgian is having a good day, it could make for nightmare viewing for Jurgen Klopp.

It makes sense, then, for him to make a change in that position, and our landlord thinks that James Milner could be the perfect replacement. Though naturally a midfielder, the Englishman played frequently in the position last term, and he actually became a standout player for the Reds. Offering solid defensive work, leadership and consistency at the back, he actually offered more than anyone else in the back-line.

As a two-time league winner, nobody in the Liverpool first team is as experienced as him at taking on the Premier League’s best players, and so he could be the perfect solution to Jurgen Klopp’s defensive woes. The German could opt to retain Moreno, or he could even call upon someone like Emre Can, but James Milner will offer a guaranteed good performance if called upon as he has for much of his career.
