This 27-year-old Chelsea man is the perfect Kante replacement if he can’t play against Man Utd – agreed?

Antonio Conte has a few selection dilemmas on his hands this weekend, and the fans in the Transfer Tavern have spent the last few days wondering what he is going to do. His main problem comes in the midfield, with N’Golo Kante still yet to play for the Blues since suffering an injury a few weeks ago. If he doesn’t make it back in time, Conte will have to make a massive decision.

He does have choices, of course, but the pairing of Tiemoue Bakayoko and Cesc Fabregas has really struggled in recent weeks, and so he really needs to look past that duo. Our landlord, then, has thrown another name into the hat: Danny Drinkwater.

Drinkwater has finally returned from injury, and he could be just the ticket for Conte. He is, of course, well versed in what Kante can do – having played with him for a year at Leicester City. He’s also far more defensive than both Bakayoko and Fabregas, which will be absolutely vital against the threatening Man Utd attack.

When you throw in his fantastic passing range, hard work rate and great technical ability, he quickly becomes the standout choice. Fabregas, in particular, has really struggled in recent weeks, and so it’s almost certainly time for him to return to the bench in favour of a more solid option. Let’s remember, Drinkwater isn’t just a random midfielder – he was signed for big money in the summer. A signing of that magnitude would walk straight into any other side in the Premier League, and the same should be said for Chelsea.

Drinkwater’s match-fitness could be a problem, granted, but he’s only going to improve that by playing more football. In the eyes of our landlord, Drinkwater is the perfect choice.
