Premier League

This £31.5m-rated Man Utd attacker would be far better off at Tottenham – agreed?

The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern are desperate for Mauricio Pochettino to improve the situation at Wembley. The Lilywhites are in a rough patch at present, with their Premier League form having taken a major hit over the last month or two.

They’ve really struggled to string together more than a couple of wins in a row, and with their rivals at the top of the Premier League table improving every week, that’s a problem.

Investment in January, then, could be just what they need, and our resident Lilywhites are hoping for a few proven faces to come to North London. Top players don’t tend to move in January, so Pochettino will have to choose his targets wisely, and one player that could be a good fit is Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

He could be available in the new year given his current situation at Man Utd. Rated at £31.5 million by Transfer Markt, the Armenian has fallen out of favour with Jose Mourinho, with the Portuguese manager seemingly bemoaning the midfielder’s mixed form. He’s certainly not been at his best over the last few weeks, but the treatment that he has received this term has, by the estimation of our landlord, been excessive. He had a very solid start to the season, and he was never going to keep that pace all season long. Indeed, with 10 Premier League starts so far this term, he has bagged a very solid 5 assists, which is a pretty remarkable record.

When you throw in Tottenham’s current situation, a deal begins to make a lot of sense. Spurs’ attacking midfielders have struggled this season, with Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen failing to deliver on their performances and expectation that they showed last season. Mkhitaryan, then, would immediately come in and provide further competition at Wembley, giving that misfiring duo a run for their money.

A move, then, could make sense for all parties. Tottenham would get another excellent attacking option, whilst Mkhitaryan himself would get a fresh start, at a new club, with a manager that is sure to value him. Surely he’d be better off at Spurs. Do you agree? Vote below and let us know!
