Newcastle United fans here in the Transfer Tavern are looking forward to next season in the hope that manager Rafa Benitez is given some funds to work with and build on last season's decent campaign.

The Magpies, who defied a lot of people to comfortably stay in the top flight, need to make sure they add some quality to the ranks over the summer to stop the squad stagnating, and it will certainly be interesting to see who Benitez looks to bring in.

Our landlord thinks that Newcastle are still a big draw, and he's been keeping a close eye on the World Cup this summer, scouting out any potential signings.

One player he thinks has quietly stood out is Brazilian defender Fagner, who has played a key part alongside Marcelo at full back for the Samba nation.

Valued at only £4.5m on Transfermarkt, the defender would be a snip if he could be signed, and would bring an element of class, experience, and quality on the ball to the Newcastle back line.

Fagner has played in Europe before, plying his trade in Germany with Wolfsburg, and now, back at Corinthians, the chance to test himself in the Premier League could be an appealing one.

Rafa Benitez will be desperate for new players, and Fagner would be an ideal addition for the Spaniard.

Newcastle fans, what do you think? Good signing? Let us know in the comments!
