The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are desperate to see some young players come through the ranks at Stamford Bridge…
John Terry was the last player to truly graduate from the Blues’ academy and forge a career at Stamford Bridge, and the fans in the pub have been desperate for a new player to repeat that feat.
One player that certainly has the chance to do just that is Lewis Baker – but Antonio Conte simply must have faith in the young Englishman.
Baker has been around for quite some time, initially emerging as a key figure in Chelsea’s developmental system. Through his conquests at this level, Baker won a number of awards and impressed. Since then, he has enjoyed loan spells at MK Dons and Vitesse – with the latter eventually becoming a coming of age for the midfielder.
He became a talisman for the Dutch side, proving vital as they ended a barren spell and won the KNVB Cup last season. Indeed, his performances caught the attention of everyone in the Transfer Tavern, and with good reason.
An attacking midfielder by trade, he is fantastic at passing and dribbling, and his uncanny ability at using both feet makes him deadly from set pieces too.
In truth, Chelsea’s academy hasn’t seen a more match ready player for quite some time, and this is not an opportunity that Antonio Conte can pass up. Chelsea don’t have the depth to move players on, and Baker is certainly good enough to make an impact.
Rated at £4.68m by Transfer Markt, Conte could save a bunch of money by holding on to Baker this summer – and he will almost certainly repay that faith if given an opportunity.
