This £42.5m-rated reported Arsenal target would be the perfect signing this summer – here’s why

The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are intrigued at reports linking the Gunners with a move for James Rodriguez…

Indeed, the links mark a change of pace from what is typical at the Emirates. Often preferring to instead buy players at a low cost and build them into stars, Rodriguez’s signing would undoubtedly carry with it a pretty large fee – and it would certainly be a welcome change amongst the Arsenal fans in the pub.

Indeed, a deal of that size certainly couldn’t come at a better time for Arsenal than this summer. After a very poor 2016/17 season, the Gunners are looking to rebuild their side, with Arsene Wenger under pressure to deliver next season. A few big money signings would certainly get the fans on side, and that is without even considering the impact that Rodriguez could have on the pitch. Whilst the Columbian, who is rated at £42.5m by Transfer Markt, is not a regular at Real Madrid at present, there is no doubting that he is one of Europe’s best at what he does.

An attacking midfielder by trade, Rodriguez’s skill with the ball at his feet is incredible, and that is arguably his main trait. On top of that, he is a fantastic set piece taker, and he is able to move the ball with ease. Indeed, there is no doubting how much he would improve the Arsenal attack, particularly alongside Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil.

The topic of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil is certainly an interesting one in this debate too. Arsenal have been criticised in the pub for their reliance on the duo, with the pair often being game changers for the Gunners. Were Rodriguez to join, the weight would certainly be placed off their shoulders and spread out more evenly.

For Arsenal, it is a deal that makes a lot of sense.
