Jurgen Klopp looks set to sign his third new player in this transfer window and the Liverpool fans in the Football Transfer Tavern reckon he’s a steal.
Andrew Robertson has left Hull City’s pre-season tour of Portugal ahead of a reported £8 million move to Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.
Klopp has been searching for a long-term replacement for James Milner, who played at left back last season for the club, and seems to have finally found his man.
The general consensus between Liverpool fans, although there are some who disagree, is that £8 million for Robertson is an absolute steal and it’s easy to see why.
The Scotland international is very versatile being able to play anywhere along the left side of the pitch. Where he differs from Milner is his attacking play.
Whilst the former Manchester City man did score his fair share of goals last season, they were mostly from the penalty spot. In contrast, Robertson is a classic wing back, he enjoys taking it to the opposition and getting forward.
Him linking up with the likes of Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino in Liverpool’s fluid front line could prove to be a deadly combination.
A weakness for the player could be his similarity to Alberto Moreno, a player who never lived up to his potential at despite being given the chance by Klopp in the early stages of last season.
Although Robertson is proven in the Premier League, the Merseysiders play a completely different style to Hull. They like to press, which means the 23-year-old will need to remember his defensive duties. Something Moreno failed to do.
More of a clever interceptor of the ball, the Scot can be weak in the tackle. However, he is a good decision maker so fans on the Kop shouldn’t worry about that.
Our landlord thinks this is a great move for both both parties, he is too good to play Championship football and Klopp hasn’t had to overpay to get his man.
