Emmanuel Adebayor was linked with a sensational move to Tottenham Hotspur with only hours left before the transfer window closes. Tottenham have been in talks with City over a loan move for the 26 year old according to the Daily Mirror.
Possibly not the last piece hit and hope journalism we’ll see before the day is over. The Mirror must be crying in their beer this morning after Man city took the unprecedented move of announcing that there was no truth in either this or the Given stories.
Adebayor has been unsettled at City over the summer as a result of being forced to the fringe of the expanding squad by a heavy influx of new signings at Eastlands and the signing of Mario Balotelli means there will be stiff competition for places in Man City’s attack this season.
He has stated his intentions to look elsewhere if he is not a main feature of the City first team and having only seven minutes of their opening two Premier League fixtures and getting two starts in last five games in all competitions could be the incentive needed to make the switch to a new team.
In an interview with talkSPORT he said ‘If you’re in a team and you’re not playing, and there is a team that comes in for me, then I will definitely be on my way out because I’m a footballer and I love playing. “If I don’t have a chance to play here, there will be a lot of chance to play somewhere else. If they force you out then you always have to follow your destiny.”
The idea that he would accept a 50% wage cut to move to Tottenham as part of a loan deal is at best ambitious.
Why the hell would Man City would be willing to pay excess of £85,000 a week for Adebayor to play for one of their rivals all season, given the stance they took with Bellamy?
