The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are expecting big changes to their attacking line this summer…
Diego Costa looks set for the exit door, and with rumours linking the Blues with a move for Poland international Robert Lewandowski, the fans in the pub think that he would be a perfect ft.
You only have to look at his incredible goalscoring record last season to prove how efficient he would be in the Premier League. He managed to bag a very impressive 30 league goals, which would have made him the Premier League’s highest goalscorer. Clearly, Diego Costa had a strong year last season, but in goalscoring terms, Lewandowski is in a whole new league.
If Costa is leaving this summer, a replacement is needed, and for the last few weeks it has appeared as though Romelu Lukaku could be Chelsea’s player of choice. Trying to find a distinction between Lukaku and Lewandowski, then, is important, and it is very difficult to argue against the idea of Lewandowski being a far better choice. Not only is his goalscoring record better, but you also have to say that his play style suits Chelsea’s far more than Lukaku’s. Lewandowski possesses far more technical ability, whilst he is also hard working. Diego Costa has been a great goalscorer over the last few years, but his play away from goal is also important – and Lewandowski would likely look to mirror that.
Both Lukaku and Lewandowski are top players, but is very tough to argue that the Polish forward wouldn’t be a better choice if he is available.
