Five years on from his shock move to Manchester United, Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern finally believe their club has found a replacement for Robin Van Persie.
And to think, it almost didn‘t happen. Alexandre Lacazette was supposed to be in the Spanish capital, teaming up with his Atletico Madrid teammates.
Yet, good fortune was with Arsene Wenger’s side after Atletico had their transfer ban upheld by the court of arbitration for sport.
A deal for Lacazette was back on for the man who netted 37 goals in 45 games.
Arsenal fans are used to their side being perennially liked with some of Europe’s hottest stars. From Karim Benzema, to Julian Draxler and Gonzalo Higuain to Riyad Mahrez. Lacazette was amongst the ‘what if’ bunch before finally completing a club record transfer for Arsenal this summer.
Lacazette hit the ground running in his first game in a Gunners shirt.
The forward found the net within minutes of coming on as a substitute in Arsenal’s opening game of pre-season against Sydney FC – a 2-0 win.
The potential chemistry the striker could find with Mesut Ozil is exciting for Arsenal fans who have craved a prolific striker for years.
No disrespect to Olivier Giroud, the Frenchman has been a fantastic servant for the club, but in five seasons at the Emirates, he has failed to deliver 20 Premier League goals.
Lacazette will be the catalyst for Arsenal to be genuine contenders for the title this season.
