Though the Man City fans in the Transfer Tavern were pleased with their side’s performance against Huddersfield over the weekend, they were disappointed with one notable absentee from the starting line-up. Though a regular so far this term, Gabriel Jesus had to settle for a spot on the bench, and though Sergio Aguero vindicated Guardiola’s decision with a goal, the decision has still left fans surprised.
After all, the Brazilian has been simply game-changing since moving to the Etihad. He’s already beaten the 7 goal tally that he earned last season, with 8 already this term, and his general game has come on leaps and bounds over the last few months. Providing lethal goalscoring, technique, skill and an efficient engine, the Brazilian is quickly turning into the complete forward.
Even against Huddersfield, the Brazilian was able to leave his mark on the game. It was his vital touch that led to Raheem Sterling’s goal, after the Terriers’ shot-stopper prevented the Brazilian from scoring himself.
Whether Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus can play together is a different topic entirely, but one thing is certain, Gabriel Jesus simply has to start. He has proven his worth, and the more he plays, the better he is going to get. With a game against Southampton coming up on Wednesday, Guardiola simply must call on his Brazilian sensation – agreed?
