Liverpool head into the new season with a wave of optimism around Anfield, while also sitting under a few dark clouds surrounding the future of key man Philippe Coutinho.
The Brazilian playmaker has been subject of interest all summer, and appears to be edging ever closer to a move to Barcelona if reports this week are to be believed. His impending exit has even lead to SportNation.bet boosting the price of Liverpool to win the Premier League up to 20/1.
However, the club need to get on with things, and a trip to Watford this afternoon awaits them, a game which Coutinho is likely to miss out on anyway through injury.
The Reds fans here in the Tavern have been having some good chats with our landlord this week though, and he thinks the club can go a long way to replacing the Brazilian by signing Schalke star Max Meyer.
The young German is a class act, having the ability like Coutinho to play across numerous positions in the midfield from an attacking sense. Meyer has impressed immensely over the last few seasons, becoming a regular in the Germany squad and being the focal point of all things good at Schalke.
He would easily be in Liverpool’s price range, and with the added lure of playing under fellow German Jurgen Klopp, Meyer might well be open to a move to the Premier League with the five time European Champions.
At 21, Meyer has time to develop into one of the world’s best attacking midfield players, while pushing Liverpool on to more success under Klopp, and you can keep up to date with the status of Meyer and any further Liverpool signings at SportNation.com.
Reds fans, what do you think to this? Good signing? Let us know in the comments!
