The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are desperate for Jurgen Klopp to recruit a few players in January. The Reds have had a mixed start to the season, and with a top four finish the goal for them this season, they’ll need to improve over the next few months. For that to happen, though, their squad simply must get a few improvements in January.
The main gripe that fans have with the squad is the defence, but our landlord thinks that Liverpool’s attack is perhaps more of an issue. Klopp has a number of top attacking midfielders to choose from, but his main problem lies at the tip of the attack. Roberto Firmino has led the line for much of the campaign, but his goalscoring record is hardly impressive, whilst Daniel Sturridge appears out of favour under the manager.
If Klopp really wants to finish in the top four this season, he’ll need to bring in a prolific forward, and on current form, he would struggle to do better than Ciro Immobile. Currently playing for Lazio, Immobile has been simply incredible this season. In just 12 league starts he has bagged a remarkable 15 goals, placing him near the top of the list when it comes to prolific European forwards this term.
A fantastic poacher with the ball at his feet and when it’s in the air, the Italian is an all-around forward, and he’s even popped up with six assists – putting his goal involvement up to a remarkable 21 in just 12 starts.
Liverpool have some of Europe’s best attacking midfielders, but they aren’t able to work to the best of their ability given the lack of a potent forward. Immobile would not only bring the best out of himself at Anfield, but he’d bring the best out of his teammates too.
