Chelsea’s season has been a poor one, but it could be about to go from bad to worse. The Blues have lost some crucial players over the last year, notably Diego Costa and Nemanja Matic, but now they could be about to lose another. According to Sky Sports, citing Sky in Italy, the Blues are interested in Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson, who is currently representing Brazil at the World Cup. A move for him would, naturally, the report indicates, leave Thibaut Courtois’ future uncertain.
For his part, Courtois’ recently told reporters that his children – who are based in Spain – will play an important role in determining his future, naturally ramping up fan speculation that a move to Real Madrid could be on the horizon.
Courtois, of course, has been at Chelsea since he was a young player, though he spent several years in Madrid on loan whilst playing for Atletico Madrid. There he developed into the player that he is today, whilst he also clearly built a life off the field too.
Alisson, meanwhile, is coming off the back of a stellar campaign for AS Roma, and whilst replacing Courtois wouldn’t be easy, the Brazilian would be an obvious candidate. He’s one of Europe’s best goalkeepers, and he’s currently keeping Man City’s Ederson out of the national team at the World Cup.
One fan noted that he’s fine with the move provided that Eden Hazard doesn’t follow him out of the door, whilst another is happy to see Alisson replace Courtois. Elsewhere, one fan is touting it as the only option for the board, and one is suggesting that the Brazilian is the perfect goalkeeper for Maurizio Sarri, if the Italian joins the club. More broadly speaking, fans are generally pretty happy with the prospect of a deal.
Take a look at what they’ve had to say below…
Fans do have some reservations, but generally speaking, Alisson is a popular man amongst Chelsea supporters. Losing Courtois would be a blow of courses, but the fact that the Blues are preempting that is good news.
