This is the reason why Liverpool failed to sign this 22-year-old

Lucas DigneLiverpool fans are sitting here enjoying a quiet pint by the bar and an article on Goal has caught their eye, which is reporting an interview with left back Lucas Digne, in which he reveals why he turned down the Merseyside Club.

The French defender instead moved to Roma on a season long loan deal, with the Serie A club paying a 2.5m euro loan fee and with a view to signing him permanently in the summer.

He has spent the two years previous playing for French giants PSG, but only 43 appearances with him coming up against stiff competition in the form of the Brazilian Maxwell.

Digne highlighted that the ability to play Champions League football at Roma was a big factor in his decision to join, something that Liverpool failed to secure last term having finished well outside of the top four.

This has a few of our resident Liverpool fans here in the Tavern worried as they may miss out on more top players in the future.

He also explained that the Roma manager Rudi Garcia had a big part to play in his move. The former Lille player worked with Garcia at his previous club and was keen to work under him again, also stating Garcia had shown a really strong desire to bring him to the Italian capital.

Liverpool fans. Are you disappointed you did not secure the signing of Digne? Are you worried other players may turn you down for similar reasons in the future? Let us know below!
