The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are desperate for their side to improve their Premier League form this season. It has been a very mixed season so far for the Reds, but a dominant win against Maribor on Wednesday will certainly have given Jurgen Klopp hope for the future.
The German’s side played well, with a few players particularly impressing. Daniel Sturridge is a player that has been discussed at length in the Transfer Tavern today, and after his two-goal haul on Wednesday, fans have been wondering whether he should start this weekend against West Ham. A win against the Hammers could be crucial for the Reds, as it would mark the first time in recent memory that they have been able to put together three successively impressive performances.
It’s clear that something big needs to happen at Anfield, and whilst much of the attention has been on the defence, games are won and lost in the attack – and Sturridge proved once again on Wednesday that he is a match-winner. He’s a lethal goalscorer, and that is something that the Reds have lacked this term.
If they can get him playing regularly and firing, he could repeat the impact that he had alongside Luis Suarez under Brendan Rodgers. The Reds almost won the title that season – that shows just how influential he could be.
Klopp, though, needs to give him that opportunity – and so a start against West Ham this weekend simply must be forthcoming. If he plays, and performs well, he could be just what Klopp needs this season.
