This Middlesbrough ace could be the perfect summer addition at West Ham

West Ham United failed to light up the Premier League in their first season at the London Stadium, and will hope that their settling in period is over after a miserable year in the Premier League…

In their final season at the Boleyn Ground, the Hammers gave their famous old stadium a fantastic send off with a strong season in the top flight which culminated in a finish within the Europa League spots, and they will hope to replicate this form next year in their new stomping grounds.

We get a tonne of West Ham fans through the door of the Transfer Tavern, and they’re always keen for a chinwag about their beloved Hammers. This summer is of particular interest to fans in Stratford, with Slaven Bilic under immense pressure to start the new season well after a poor showing last year.

One fan blames the year on his side’s leaky defence and has suggested that a solid new centre-half is needed this summer to bolster the squad. West Ham brought Jose Fonte to the club last year to add to their defensive options, but another fresh face may be required this summer.

Our West Ham fan thinks his club should look slightly closer to home, and would love to see a bid to bring England international Ben Gibson to the club.

The Middlesbrough man earned his first call up to Gareth Southgate’s squad in March, and although he did not take to the field, he is certainly in the manager’s plans.

With Boro relegated, Gibson looks set to leave to aid his international ambitions, and proving himself in the high-pressure environment of the former Olympic Stadium could be the opportunity the player needs to become a consistent England international.

Technical, agile, strong, a real defensive ace – he is the perfect fit.
