This Portuguese international should follow Bernando Silva to Manchester City this summer – agreed?

The Manchester City supporters in the Football Transfer Tavern were left ecstatic with the arrival of Bernando Silva last month as Pep Guardiola’s revolution is well underway at the Etihad.

They are now preparing to splash the cash this summer with a number of acquisitions who could potentially stamp the Sky Blues as a major threat in domestic and European competitions, having arguably the best manager in the world at the helm.

One player who should follow his international team-mate to Man City is midfielder Joao Mario, who is currently plying his trade in Italy’s Serie A for giants Inter Milan.

The 24-year-old put pen-to-paper on a five-year deal at San Siro last summer in a £34 million fee which took him from his native homeland where he was playing for Sporting Lisbon, but it’s fair to say Mario has impressed in his first twelve months in Italy.

The fans by the bar had been left stunned by his performances in the league last season; racking up 33 appearances in all tournaments – bagging three goals and assisting in a further five.

Manchester City will need to reinforce their midfield positions during pre-season and I can’t think of anyone better than Joao Mario, with, in my opinion, the centre of the pitch being the club’s weakest area from last campaign. With players like Fernando, Fernandinho and Yaya Toure flattering to deceive as of late, a few upgrades are certainly necessary.

Bernardo Silva is sure to be a hit at the Etihad this summer, and the arrival of a Portuguese compatriot will only make that easier for the both of them.

Man City fans, do you need a new midfielder? Is Joao Mario an ideal arrival? Let us hear your thoughts in the comment section below!
