Arsenal fans have been feeling pretty pleased with themselves over the past couple of months here in the Football Transfer Tavern.
It is a far cry from New Years Day, when the #WengerOut brigade was out in full force – so much so that one supporter ran towards the dugout to confront the Arsenal boss and do the classic ‘throw the ticket in disgust’ routine, after a 2-0 defeat at St Mary’s.
Arsenal have turned it around since then, with just one Premier League defeat since – although that did come at White Hart Lane – and now they sit second, with an FA Cup semi final against Reading to come.
As the form team in the country at present, Gunners supporters have little reason to complain.
But when you go back 12 months ago and consider the position they found themselves in, Arsenal fans were livid with the way in which they had seen their side’s challenge for the Premier League and Champions League crumble.
Having spent big money in the summer to build a side capable of mounting a sustained challenge, this identical record should be a sign of how little progress has actually been made.
Yet it seems Arsene Wenger has pulled the wool over everyone’s eyes once again! Top four and a cup will still do nicely won’t it though Arsenal fans? The top four is a trophy in itself after all…
