Chamakh currently plays for French league side Bordeaux, but he is out of contract in the summer. The two clubs most regularly linked with Chamakh have been Arsenal and Liverpool. Chamakh has performed well for Bordeaux in the Champions League, this season scoring in wins against Bayern Munich and Juventus, justifying the attention from two of the Premier League’s biggest clubs.
The 26 year old striker stands at 6ft2 so he offers a physical presence for opposition defender to deal with. This physical size is also combined with some neat touches and skill as can be seen in the following video;
Such performances will make Chamakh a good foil for either Robin Van Persie or Fernando Torres. The ability to beat a defender both in the air and on the floor is a rare one, and goes a long way to justify the interest by the two clubs.
Chamakh is a full Moroccan international with 52 caps and 15 goals. He has made a total of 246 appearances for Bordeaux scoring 69 goals. He is hardly a prolific striker, yet he seems to have a strong all round game. Bordeaux shocked Lyon to win the French title in 2009 with Chamakh at the heart of that success scoring 13 goals.
The player himself has expressed and interest in going to Arsenal, but Liverpool will be trying to convince the Moroccan to move to Anfield. Expect an exciting chase for the player’s signature in the coming months with many other Premier League clubs sure to be tempted by such a talented free signing.
