FC Twente hit man Luuk De Jong is attracting the interest of numerous clubs from England and Germany according to The Mirror.
The 21-year-old striker has impressed this term in the Eredivisie and Europa League for McLaren’s side – scoring 32 goals this season – bringing the attentions of at least eight clubs including Manchester United, Newcastle, Liverpool, and Bundesliga clubs Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Moenchengladbach.
De Jong is highly rated in Holland, especially at his club Twente with manager Steve McCLaren recently stating the target man would be perfectly suited to the English game.
“Luuk is an ‘English style’ striker, made for English football.” “Luuk is big, strong, brilliant in the air and scores goals so easily. He has every quality a top class striker needs to have for a big club.”
With such high praise surrounding De Jong this season; many representatives were present from the Premier League to view the player in action in Twente’s clash with Heerenveen. It is known Everton’s David Moyes, Newcastle’s Alan Pardew and scouting networks from Manchester United, Chelsea and Spurs were present to see the Dutch international score twice in the game.
The striker’s physical presence would offer a focal point for any side, standing at 6ft 2ins De Jong is very affective in the air and can hold the ball up effectively. He is clinical inside the 18 yard box and is being tipped to lead the line for years to come for Holland as he currently makes his breakthrough – recently appearing at Wembley against England.
German sides Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Moenchengladbach have already saw bids of £12million rejected by FC Twente – so as the race for his signature heats up, the Dutch side may create a bidding war for their star man as Europe look to add De Jong to their ranks.
