This Summer’s Top 20 Most Sought After Players

The summer transfer window is scooting along at full steam so we take a whistle stop look at all the runners  and riders that are the players who look set to attract the most attention from the worlds elite.

Ezequiel Lavezzi

Not a scorer of many goals with only 11 for Napoli last season, Lavezzi brings much more to the table and has attracted interest from Chelsea, Liverpool and PSG.

Dani Alves

Surprisingly shunted towards the back end of last season, Alves looks like he might be on his way to raise some significant cash for Barca. Schalke reportedly have shown interest, but it’s big spending City and Chelsea who could be set to battle it out.

Thiago Silva

AC Milan refuse to be drawn on speculation but both City and Barca are said to be desperate for the Brazilian stopper. Would require a huge fee.

Gonzalo Higuain

Despite never being a regular, the Argentine struck 26 goals in total for Real Madrid last season. Again Chelsea and City have both been linked, with Inter also said to be sniffing around, but the player himself has stated his desire to stay at the Spanish champions.

Yann M’Vila

The 21 year old midfielder is high on Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger’s list of priorities, but The Gunners will face competition from Inter Milan. Whilst Rennes are resigned to losing their star man, they’ll be no discussions until after the Euros.

Edinson Cavani

Has continued to score for fun in Italy, but should move on in order to progress his career now Napoli have finished in a disappointing 6th position. Again it’s the usual suspects, with Juventus joining player hungry giants City and Chelsea in registering an interest in the Uruguayan. The player himself is said to want to stay.

Robin Van Persie

As the days go on you get the impression no news is bad news for Arsenal fans. After securing their Champions League status at the end of the season, you’d have thought their captain would come out and declare his intention to stay, if that were indeed the case. However no such thing has happened, with both Manchester giants and Barcelona all in the hunt.

Wesley Sneijder

Was purportedly on the verge of sealing a move to United last summer, only for the move to collapse due to wage demands. The 27 year old Dutchman will no doubt put himself in the shop window once more during the Euros, as he looks to for Champions League football after Inter’s disappointing finish last season in Serie A.

Luka Modric

Was moaning about the lack of Champions League football last summer, so it’s unlikely the Croat will be impressed by Spurs last gasp failure to reach the competition this year. Will attract all the big guns, and will require a heavy sum to appease Daniel Levy.

Javi Martinez

Dominated in Bilbao’s tremendous cup successes this year, and apparently impressed Alex Ferguson hugely in his sides trouncing of United. City and United are both keen, whilst Real Madrid are also interested.

A transfer story which as rumbled on for ages now. Looked set to seal a move to Madrid, then to Barca, but nothings really been said for a while now. Compatriot Ronaldo has publicly stated Neymar’s need to move to Europe in order to establish himself as a world class talent, and the 20 year old would certainly not be short of suitors.

Demba Ba

The £7 million release clause apparently still remains, so why nobody has made a move yet is quite astounding. Started the season on fire but reverted to a support role upon Papiss Cisse’s arrival. The likes of Spurs and Arsenal could make moves, but the former Hammers man is content on Tyneside for the time being.

Chelsea seem to be homing in on their target, with the player thought to be eager to move from Porto. Has been linked with a move away many times before, but it looks as though the Brazilian, who has an 100 million Euro release clause in his contract, could be finally set to continue his career else where.

Cost Athletico Madrid 40 million Euros last summer, and he didn’t disappoint scoring 36 goals in his debut season. That wasn’t enough for Champions League qualification however, and many of Europe’s top sides are tracking the situation. Chelsea, of course, are known admirers.

Didier Drogba

Left Chelsea in a blaze of glory. Though at 34 years of age the Ivorian no longer represents an investment for the future, he’s shown he’s still capable at present. There have been murmours about possible interest from Spain, but it looks as though China could be the next stop for the Drog.

Shinji Kagawa

Instrumental once more in another epic Bundesliga victory for Borussia Dortmund, and now seems certain to move on to the Premier League. Arsenal and United are both desperate for his signature, with Fergie currently occupying pole position for the midfielder.

Jan Vertonghen

Has been touted about almost as much as Eden Hazard but, unlike the Belgian, his future still remains unclear. Tottenham and Arsenal have both made the biggest strides in concluding a deal, and it seems as though the Ajax man could arrive at the Lane at some point over the next month.

Fernando Llorente

Scored 17 goals for 10th placed Bilbao in La Liga, but 29 in all ensure a summer of murdering and speculation about his future. Tottenham, United and City all want him, but Bilbao will resist any advances.

Younes Belhanda

Was instrumental in Montpellier’s Ligue 1 success, and would be a perfect fit for Arsenal who are keen. Still only 22, the Moroccan would be a shrewd purchase.

Olivier Giroud

Belhanda’s teammate as enjoyed similar success, and could play a huge part in France’s bid for European success. After 21 goals last season the 25 year old has alerted Arsenal and United, as well as Champions League runners up Bayern Munich.
