Liverpool

This Tottenham flop could be the perfect January signing for Liverpool – do you agree?

The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are eager for Jurgen Klopp to land some new attacking depth in January. The Reds have had a decent few weeks, but with Roberto Firmino’s fitness being carefully managed, Jurgen Klopp’s lack of attacking options have become clear for all to see.

Both Dominic Solanke and Daniel Sturridge have been given a chance over the last few weeks, and both have failed to deliver with goals, and the Reds have resultantly been unable to dominate sides as they so often have in the past. In January, then, a new forward is an essential final piece of the puzzle for Jurgen Klopp – and our landlord thinks that he should look towards North London in search of a solution. The man that he thinks Klopp should move for is Fernando Llorente.

The prospect of that is sure to concern a few of the fans in the Transfer Tavern, and it’s easy to see why. He has struggled to battle Harry Kane for a starting berth at Spurs, and when he has been given a chance, he has failed to take it. At Liverpool, though, things could be very different.

Jurgen Klopp has shown an affinity for regular rotation this season, with no player playing more than a few games in a row in an effort to preserve fitness. This stretches to the attacking line, and this would undoubtedly result in Fernando Llorente getting far more game time. It’s very difficult to make an impact when you’re only getting 20 minutes at the end when your side is looking for a goal. He’d certainly make an impact from the start if given more of a regular chance. What’s more, Liverpool’s attack is also far more rigid in its structure than Tottenham’s, and so there’s no reason why he can’t push Firmino for a regular starting berth long-term.

Let’s not forget, too, Fernando Llorente is no unproven flop. He’s been one of Europe’s most consistent forwards for the last few years, and he has been able to score wherever he has been. Spain, Italy, England – goals have been the one constant throughout his nomadic career. Even last year, with a solid 15 league goals, there was no stopping Llorente.

He has had a tough few months at Tottenham, but he’s still a top quality player, and Klopp could be the man to bring the best out of him.
