Everton's season has been an up and down one under Marco Silva so far, with inconsistencies in the main being the main problem for the Toffees.

A squad full of quality is failing to deliver on what it promised in the summer, and a mid-table finish would not really be acceptable to the owners if they fail to improve on their current position as it stands.

Despite plenty of spending over the last few windows, the January window this time around gives Silva and Everton the ideal chance to look at just what the squad needs, and we at the Tavern feel that a small element of strengthening is needed at Goodison Park.

That's why we've identified Mexican midfielder Hector Herrera as the perfect sort of signing for the club, with the tough tackling central midfielder once again having an excellent season in Europe.

The Porto star has for a while now been considered a consistent performer in the middle of the park, and with the reputation of being something of a hard-man, he might be just what the Toffees need.

The talent of the likes of Sigurdsson and Richarlison might well flourish in the knowledge that someone like Herrera is manning the fort in the middle of the park so to speak.

Herrera is no nonsense for sure, but he is also technically very good with the ball, and at 28, he could well feel the time is right to make the move over to the Premier League.

Everton fans, what do you think? Good signing? Let us know in the comments!
