This very talented defender could be the final piece in Guardiola’s Man City puzzle if signed – agreed?

Though the Man City fans in the Transfer Tavern have enjoyed the first half of the season, they are concerned that the second-half of the campaign could go downhill. Indeed, it’s going to be tough to reach the heights that they’ve enjoyed so far this term, with Pep Guardiola’s men having very high expectations.

Things have been going very well, but if they want to stay at that level, Man City need to continue to evolve and develop, and so Pep Guardiola cannot rest upon his laurels. To the contrary, he needs to be active and evolutionary – and so a major January acquisition could be the perfect ticket. They’re looking to do just that, according to L’Equipe, with the French publication noting that they want to land Samuel Umtiti.

Though not a household name in England, Umiti – who is rated at £36 million by Transfer Markt – has been making his name famous in Europe since moving to Spain to play for Barcelona with a string of fantastic performances this term – and our landlord thinks that he would be the perfect signing for Man City.

The Citizens’ first team is fantastic, but you could argue that the one area that is needing improvement is the defence. The likes of Kyle Walker, John Stones and Benjamin Mendy – when he returns from injury – are amongst the best in the world at what they do, but beyond that trio, Man City are lacking genuine quality. Nicolas Otamendi has been better this year, but he’s far from the highest level, whilst Vincent Kompany’s career appears to be winding down. In that sense, then, Umiti could be the perfect player to come in and add some genuine world-class quality.

But what exactly can he do, and who is Umtiti? Well, the Frenchman moved to Barcelona last year, and he has really impressed. Immediately becoming a regular in Spain, he has displayed his fantastic range of passing, his pace, his quality on the ball, his tackling and his composure – immediately becoming a fan favourite at the Nou Camp. He’s fit right in in Spain, and he’d have a similar impact in England.

A move by Man City, then, would be wise. Guardiola’s puzzle is nearly complete, but the addition of Umtiti could be the final piece – agreed?
